Bible verse of the day. 2 Chronicles 19:6

Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment. Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord. 2 Chronicles 19:6 

This verse can seem very strange, since people aren't supposed to judge each other, but in the context of this verse, a king is talking to judges he just appointed. Oh, now it makes sense: Judges have the job of judging, so they can judge.

But then you start to think of this verse in the context of every occupation. Wouldn't it be so much better if you thought of your job as pleasing to God? I think that, as Mary Kay Ash said, you need to put God first, family second, and career third, and then everything will work itself out.

All of us need to make sure that our work is in the name of the Lord. Then everything else will work itself out.

P.S. I made a new year's resolution to read the entire bible cover to cover this year. So I realize for a while, most of these bible verses are going to come from the Old Testament. I'm reading the bible slowly, to take it all in, so just bear with me through this.

Les Bobos: The red wine for those who hate red wine.

Les Bobos is a really good red wine, if you're just getting into drinking wine.

Let's wine about it

Here's the thing, I love wine. That's no secret... I mean, I grew up on a winery so it would be weird if I didn't love wine. But I digress. Although I love wine, I just cannot get into drinking red wine.

Red wine is sophisticated. It's what you drink when you go out to dinner and order a steak. It's supposed to be rich, and velvety, and blah blah wine terms blahhhhh.

Unfortunately, every time I pop the cork off a cabernet, I pour myself a glass, take a sip, and think, "Where's the Pinot Grigio? I really want Pinot Grigio."

And that's how my red wine experiences went. That is... until I found Pinot Noir. How did I find it, you ask? I told my dad one night when we were ordering wine, that I didn't like red wine. For those of you who know my dad, you'll find this next part funny.

He looked at me and said, "I didn't either until I bought a bottle and felt like I had to finish it."

Anyway, I told him that red wine was just too... dry. He suggested a Pinot Noir. I loved it. And the rest is history. I've been drinking Pinot Noir ever since.

Then I signed up for Club W

Which I do not recommend. We'll get to that in a later post.

Anyway, I was getting bottle after bottle of dryish, heavyish, blah blah blah wine terms-ish, red wines. Then I cracked open a bottle of Les Bobos at a french themed party. I figured, what the heck? I'll try this. Also, in the back of my mind was my dad saying, "I didn't [like red wine] either until I bought a bottle and felt like I had to finish it," so I unscrewed the bottle and poured myself a glass.

What did I think?

As an amateur wine drinker, I'm not going to slip any wine blah blah blah in your face, because honestly, I'm not sure what any of it means (in case you couldn't already tell that). Instead, I'll just tell you that it wasn't heavy, like most reds I've drank. It wasn't really all that thick like most reds. It was kind of sweet, but not La Passione sweet. I tend to like wines that are fruity, so maybe it was just fruitier than most. I really can't tell you. All I can say is that I loved it!

The simple verdict: if you're new to the red wine scene, and you're dying to be that sophisticated person who orders red wine, try a bottle of this stuff. It's real good!

Bible verse of the day. Leviticus 19:10

"Don't strip every last piece of fruit from the vines, and don't pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and for those traveling through." Leviticus 19:10

For those of you who don't know, I made a new year's resolution to read the entire bible cover to cover this year. So I realize for a while, most of these bible verses are going to come from the Old

This verse kind of spoke to me because it mainly tells us that we should live simply and leave all we don't need for the less fortunate. Don't be greedy. There are others out there in more need than you. That which you don't need, don't take, because someone else could need it.

I wrote before about how I want to simplify things, and this bible verse is a good testament that living a godly life involves simple living. I still need to work on that, but nobody is perfect, especially not me. That's why I read the bible.

Trashy vs. Sexy
We're inundated with certain ideals of how women should be, and we, as women, have the choice of being trashy or being sexy. Do those two adjectives sound like synonyms? Well, the thing is, we're not. I was recently inspired by this article to look at the differences between what's sexy and what's trashy.There's a big difference, so should we be more of a Kylie Jenner, or a  Sadie Robertson?



What makes a woman sexy?
I personally think that a smile is the sexiest thing a woman can wear, and it's a shame that many young women feel they need to wear less and less clothing in order to feel sexy. I feel my sexiest when I'm in my favorite skirt, my shirt that covers, and I'm not worried about wardrobe malfunctions happening. I think if more young women got into this mindset, the world would be a better place.

This is the dress I feel most sexy in. Not revealing, just cute!

Homemade Lipstick in 6 Easy Steps!

A a poor college student, I'm always looking for any chance to save a few bucks, and after discovering a way to make your own lipstick, I knew I just had to give it a try! Plus, it only takes 2 ingredients that you probably already have laying around.

Here's what you'll need:

1. Coconut Oil
2. Crayons
3. Measuring Spoons
4. A double boiler
      OR if you don't have one, you can use a large pan and a small pan
5. Small, white dish (Needs to be white so you can see the color better as it melts)
6. Something to put the finished lipstick in. I used small containers

Now, let's make the lipstick. It's all natural, since crayons are mainly just paraffin wax and dye. I mean, I ate these - er, some kids eat these - in preschool, so they're made to be nontoxic and safe!

Step 1: Pick out your colors

I used these three colors. I recommend writing down the colors on a white sheet of paper as shown above, so that in case you want to re-make a color you really like, you know what color of crayon you used.

Step 2: Set up your double boiler

What you'll want to do is fill the large pan with water, set the small pan in the middle of the water, and then put the small dish in the small pan. Turn the stove on LOW and wait a while for the dish to get just warm - not hot - enough so you can still comfortably touch it.
While you're waiting for the dish to heat up, you can do step 3.

Step 3: Peel

Peel the paper off your crayons. Make sure to keep them in order of where you wrote the color down.

Step 4: Melting coconut oil

Add in a teaspoon of coconut oil to the dish. Wait about two minutes for it to melt completely, and it should look like water once it's melted.

Step 5: Add your crayon

Break your crayon into 3 or 4 pieces, and put them into the coconut oil. Mix occasionally and wait for the crayon to melt completely into a liquid. This step should take about 12-13 minutes to ensure all of the crayon melts.

 

Step 6: Pour lipstick into container

Once the crayon has melted completely, you can pour it carefully into a  small container. Wait for it to cool. Then, all that's left is to wear and enjoy! I use my finger to apply them, and just wash my hands afterwards. I keep hand wipes in my purse in case I want to reapply on the go. I find that the heat of my hands helps melt the coconut oil slightly and it goes on smoother. If that freaks you out at all, you can always use a small makeup brush or a q-tip.

Hate dry skin? Then don't use this product!

For some time, I have been a straight up Mary Kay girl. Everything I use and that I love comes from Mary Kay. However, because of being in the great city of Chicago, around so many cosmetics stores I've been getting samples of other products, GASP!

Usually I use TimeWise moisturizer, dry skin formula. Then the TimeWise day cream over that, but when a dashingly handsome man with a European accent handed me a sample of Merlot Collection Day Cream and told me he was, "giving me a piece of his heart," I just had to take the sample and actually use it! (I cannot resist a man with an accent. I've bought more from carts with foreign men than I'd like to admit... just because I want to hear them talk more)

Here is what I think of the Vine Vera Merlot Collection Day cream.

1. It takes a step out of my morning routine. It's moisturizer and day cream in one, and for a heavy sleeper and a reluctant riser, this is crucial.

2. It's creamy consistency and wonderful smell draw me in

3. Its propensity to wear off halfway through the day leaving me with a painfully dry face draws me right back to my tried-and-true Mary Kay products.




 Only goes to show ladies, that sometimes the tried-and-true is (sometimes) better than the exotic. Even if the exotic comes from gorgeous European men.

No. I'm not only talking about makeup.
